• Part 1 describes who you are, including your firm’s goals, objectives, services offered, project approach, processes, client references, etc. Do not forget to ask for references from team members on projects you worked on together.
• Part 2 describes what you have done. In my situation, this was minimal for the first year or so.
I found that clients wanted to hear about both. Fortunately, my story about who I was, what I did at Amex, and my understanding of what the corporate client was looking for helped me get a number of jobs, even though my “What I Have Done” portfolio was very lean. Including the other team players on my project/client list was a real benefit. First, it made the list look larger; second, the potential client would often know one or more of the others and by default, it gave me credibility. Giving credit to the entire team benefits all.
